and thank you so much for viewing our website.
Located close to Hawes and Aysgarth Falls, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Thornton Lodge provides a peaceful haven amid fine period features and modern comforts. Set in large 3 acre grounds, a short distance outside the hamlet of Thornton Rust, this lovely old house offers a comfortable and welcoming escape from the bustle of todays hurried lifestyles.
Thornton Lodge provides luxurious Country House 5 star bed and breakfast from an idyllic setting above the River Ure in Wensleydale, with beautiful rooms priced from only £40 per person per night bed and breakfast, making them an affordable option for those seeking a luxury break in the area. Simple evening meals are also available by arrangement on most evenings.
We are a little off the beaten track so to speak but still only 2 miles from three different villages with lovely pubs and restaurants. Whilst not licensed, guests are welcome to bring their own drinks and enjoy them in either their rooms, over dinner or in our lovely large lounge. I believe we have one of the largest guest lounges in the area - with beautiful views across the grounds and countryside beyond. Please look at the first picture on my gallery page which is an ariel shot of the house and grounds in the lovely countryside around it.
The Dales towns of Leyburn and Bedale lie to the East of us, Harrogate, York and Leeds to the South, whilst the Lake District is just an hour to the West, beyond our own lovely little Dales town of Hawes. Swaledale is our next door neighbour, making Wensleydale a perfect base to explore this wonderful part of England.
We open for b&b during summer - Our 2015 season will probably be Saturday 4th April to Sunday 27th September - I'll decide for definite in the spring on my season start date once I know how cold it's going to be then and how many people are keen to venture out at that time of year if it is snowing at Easter time! In any respect I will be open by 25th April as I have guests already booked for that weekend :)
To get an initial feel for Thornton Lodge please view our gallery - the thumbnail pictures will open up larger if you click on them. I add new pictures quite often as there are so many lovely things to snap in and around the house and Dale.
Please telephone or email me to make a reservation enquiry. Please note we do not accept dogs at any time or children under the age of 8 unless staying as part of an exclusive hire. We are also bookable online should that be more convenient for you. If you do want to book online please use my own website as all the companies such as Booking.com charge a commission to the houses that are listed on them and I only list 2 rooms with them but have all my availability on my own website - plus you get to deal directly with me - that's got to be a bonus.
However you choose to book, I'd be delighted to welcome you to Thornton Lodge, to experience one of Yorkshire's finest luxury five star bed and breakfast holiday destinations.
For those wishing to stay connected during their break, there is wifi at the house, which is fairly dependable for a rural location, although we are 11km from the exchange so our speeds are much slower than some people are now used to. (lucky you if that's the case!)
Time and again, guests tell me that they have found a very special place at Thornton Lodge. If you are interested in what other people have had to say about their stay here, please look at my guest comments page or click on the trip advisor button at the bottom of the page. There is also a smaller button for my flickr photo's, and buttons for twitter, facebook and my blog. If you would like to stay up to date with news about the house these can be good ways of doing so.
Thanks again, Vanessa x
