Welcome to the Thornton Lodge website. We offer luxurious Country House 5 star bed and breakfast from an idyllic setting above the River Ure in Wensleydale. Located close to Hawes and Aysgarth Falls, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, we provide a peaceful haven amid fine period features and modern comforts. Set in large private grounds a short distance outside the hamlet of Thornton Rust, our home is a comfortable and welcoming escape from the bustle of today's hurried lifestyles.
The Dales towns of Leyburn and Bedale lie to the East of us, Harrogate, York and Leeds to the South, whilst the Lake District is just an hour to the West, beyond our own lovely little Dales town of Hawes. Swaledale is our next door neighbour, making Wensleydale a perfect base to explore this wonderful part of England.
Our season this year ends 28th September - We will open for 2014 on Good Friday and will be taking bookings for the tour de France Depart after 6th January 2014 with a minimum stay of 2 nights as the house will be cut off for the race.
To get an initial feel for Thornton Lodge please view our gallery - the thumbnail pictures will open up larger if you click on them. I add new pictures quite often as there are so many lovely things to snap in and around the house and Dale.
Please telephone or email us to make a reservation enquiry. Please note we do not accept dogs at any time or children under the age of 8 unless staying as part of an exclusive hire. We are also bookable online should that be more convenient for you.
However you choose to book, we would be delighted to welcome you to Thornton Lodge, to experience one of Yorkshire's finest luxury five star bed and breakfast holiday destinations. For those wishing to stay connected during their break, there is wifi at the house, which is fairly dependable for a rural location.
Time and again, guests tell us that they have found a very special place at Thornton Lodge. If you are interested in what other people have had to say about their stay here, please look at our guest comments page or click on the trip advisor button at the bottom of the page. There is also a smaller button for our flickr photo's, and buttons for twitter, facebook and our blog. If you would like to stay up to date with news about the house these can be good ways of doing so.
